Publishing FAQs
- I already have
other distributors for my materials. Does that make a difference?
While we prefer to sell exclusive products, our primary criteria
for publishing or distribution is that the products closely match
our strategic goals and the current HRDQ product line.
- What do I need
to do to submit a product for consideration?
Just complete the Product
Submission Form and send it along with one complete set of
materials to the address that appears at the top of the form. That
will give us all the information we need to conduct a thorough
review of your product.
- How does the
product review process work?
At HRDQ, the product review process is a team effort. First, our
Research & Development Team will review your product to determine
whether it might be appropriate for HRDQ. This initial evaluation
is followed by a comprehensive review by the Product Review Team,
who will analyze the product’s quality, uniqueness, and
marketability, and determine how it compares with competing
products in the marketplace.
If your product is accepted, we’ll send you a letter of acceptance
and contact you to discuss the publication or distribution process
in greater detail. If we are unable to use your product idea, we
will return all materials to you unless you request otherwise.
- Who reviews my
product?
The Product Review Team is composed of HRDQ staff members from
Research & Development, Marketing, Sales, Editorial, and
Production. Occasionally we invite strategic partners to assist in
the process.
- How long does
the review process take?
When we receive your materials for review we will send you a
confirmation letter or e-mail message. The review process takes at
least four weeks.
- Are my
materials treated confidentially?
All materials are handled with care and kept confidential. We will
return them to you when the review process is complete.
- What happens
after my product is reviewed?
If your product is accepted for publication, you will receive a
confirmation letter and an Author’s Agreement. If our reviewers
determine that your product does not fit our current product plan
or overall corporate strategy, we will return all copies to you
unless you request otherwise. Unfortunately, due to time
constraints, we cannot provide written summaries of the review
process.
- What are the
arrangements for publishing new materials?
You’ll find the details of the publishing agreement between author
and HRDQ in the Author’s Agreement, which is a standard publishing
contract.
- How does the
product development process work?
HRDQ works closely with you through each step of the process. Our
staff members in Research & Development, Editorial, Design,
Marketing, and Sales will collaborate with you to ensure the
successful development, design, and sale of your product. We
welcome your suggestions for the design and packaging of your
product and will consider them in the process. To ensure the
highest quality and accurate brand messaging, however, we will
need to make the final decision. In general, the total process
usually takes 4-12 months, depending on the type of products and
projects already in progress.
- Who owns the
copyright to the published product?
As an author for HRDQ, you’ll own the copyright and will need to
file the necessary forms. We will provide you with these forms and
help you to complete them. HRDQ owns the exclusive rights to
publish, market, and distribute the product worldwide.
- Who is
responsible for obtaining permissions?
In all cases, the author is responsible for obtaining the
necessary permissions to use material from published sources
protected by copyright. These permissions must be obtained in
writing before the manuscript enters the editorial process. For
information regarding what types of quoted material require
reprint permission, please contact the US Copyright Office at the
address below or call 202-707-3000 for copies of their informative
publications. In general, any quoted material longer than 300
words will require permission for use from the original source.
