Escape the Jungle
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA
(November 29, 2005) -- Jungle Escape, the best-selling
game from HRDQ, celebrates its 25th anniversary -- and a history of
helping diverse organizations learn basic team skills, including
open communication, goal setting, problem solving, and more.
"Jungle Escape is a great way to make an immediate difference
with a team. It captured our imaginations and now we plan to create
a larger learning experience to build on the learning benefits,"
said Steve Schofield, Regional Sales Training Manager for Comcast
University.
FedEx HR Advisor Jim Wallace, Jr. has tapped Jungle Escape
for a wide range of training.
"It’s one of my favorite ways to engage a group and teach some
valuable skills at the same time! We’ve used Jungle Escape in
a variety of training programs -- everything from leadership,
communication, and team-building to icebreakers.
Everyone from management, sales, and support personnel can benefit
from the skills and exercises."
The simulation game challenges participants to work together to
complete a project under a deadline and with limited information.
Presented with a predetermined set of toy parts, teams must create a
plan for construction and then build a helicopter to exact
specifications. After the models are completed, team members discuss
team dynamics and offer insights gained from the activity. When
scores are compared, participants learn that typically the team that
took the most time to plan builds the helicopter in the least amount
of time.
"Jungle Escape got everyone working on the same level,” said
retailer Fashion Bug’s Director of Human Resources Michele McDonald,
PHR. She facilitated the game with a group of store managers.
“By taking part, they realized that leadership can shift -- and that
people can share the role and their individual strengths."
When the game was first released in 1980, it was one of the first of
its kind to hit the training market.
“We saw the need for an experiential way to demonstrate how teams
should work,” said Brad Glaser, HRDQ President and CEO.
“Trainers really responded to Jungle Escape. The concept took
off and the game has consistently been a best seller. Even after all
these years, some people still refer to HRDQ as the ‘helicopter’
company.”
