Training Tool Helps Leaders Become More Effective, Offers Decision-Making Framework

Leaders gain the focus and flexibility they need in making workplace decisions with the new learning instrument, the Focused Leader Profile – A Situational Approach to Leading Work Groups.

Based on the work of clinical psychologist Fred Fiedler and his researchers, the Focused Leader Profile adapts the theory that all leadership is situational to the practical concerns of today’s leaders. The instrument reveals the three critical factors a leader needs to examine in order to analyze work group situations and determine the most effective response: relationships, task clarity, and power.

“Writings and theories about leadership abound and it’s difficult for organizations to know where to begin in creating a basic leadership program,” said HRDQ Chairman Rollin Glaser, EdD. “The Focused Leader Profile is an immediately useful tool,” he added. “It is an excellent starting point in the leadership development process. With it, organizations are able to begin to develop leaders to their fullest potential."

Geared to leaders of groups or teams at any level, the Focused Leader Profile provides a framework for making decisions. The learning instrument presents individuals with 8 work situations and 4 possible responses. The results are two profiles — one for Style Effectiveness and one for Leadership Flexibility. Next, leaders are introduced to the 3 Factors of Focused Leadership and learn how to analyze these factors when choosing an effective task/relationship-oriented approach to address work group situations. Interpretation of Profile results and action planning help individuals apply their learning to a current work group situation.

The comprehensive Facilitator Guide features a complete 3-hour workshop, alternative training designs, Experiential Learning/Training Model, 5 optional activities, sample copy of the Participant Guide, as well as a CD-ROM containing Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation and reproducible masters.

The Participant Guide includes the 8-item assessment, pressure-sensitive scoring form, description of the 3 Factors of Focused Leadership, and action planning guidelines.

The Focused Leader Profile is available exclusively from HRDQ. If you wish to receive more information about the instrument or any of HRDQ’s other products and services, please contact our marketing team, via e-mail at news@hrdq.com or via telephone at 800.633.4533.
