Project Leadership
Assessment Identifies 5 Vital “People” Skills
A new learning
instrument gives project leaders a way to hone the people skills
needed to manage projects and teams. The Project Leadership Assessment
focuses on interpersonal skills in five vital areas.
As project management becomes a mainstay of work life, the role of
project leader has evolved. Research points to the diverse skill set
needed to be an effective project manager.
“Successful project leaders use a combination of technical and
interpersonal skills,” said Barbara Roadcap, Vice President - Product
Development. “These leaders know how to plan, organize, and schedule.
But they also know how to motivate, build relationships, and sustain
team performance. With both sets of skills, leaders can work through
the Project Life Cycle – and get results.”
The Project Leadership Assessment provides trainers with two
components — an inventory and feedback — that, together, create an
accurate picture of a project leader’s effectiveness. First, project
leaders respond to 25 statements, using a current project as a mental
reference. Then, feedback forms provided by each leader’s team members
reveal another perspective of the leaders’ interpersonal skills. With
this profile, project leaders see how they measure up in five
different areas: Encouraging Open Communication, Inspiring a Positive
Outlook, Influencing Effectively, Managing Conflict, and Developing
the Team.
By experiencing the Project Leadership Assessment — including the
inventory, scenario activity, action planning, and feedback —
participants identify strengths and areas for improvement, learn about
five interpersonal skills vital to effective project leadership, and
find out how to enable team members to complete work successfully. In
addition, project leaders will learn how to apply leadership skills at
each project phase and receive a framework for leading projects.
The Facilitator Guide includes administrative guidelines, theoretical
background, Experiential Learning Methodology, complete 2-hour
workshop, alternative training designs, blank training outline,
optional activities, sample copy of both the Participant Guide and
Feedback Form, as well as a CD-ROM containing Microsoft® PowerPoint®
presentation and reproducible masters.
The Participant Guide includes a 25-item assessment,
pressure-sensitive scoring form, definition of project leadership,
five vital project leadership skills, quick reference guide, mini case
study, and action planning guidelines.
